TITLE: CHILD NUTRITION FIELD COORDINATOR
REPORTS TO: Child Nutrition Director

MAJOR FUNCTION: The District Child Nutrition Field Coordinator, under the general direction of the Child Nutrition Director, will have the responsibility of training and supervising the district-wide Child Nutrition program. Assist in the oversight, management and administration of assigned District-wide nutrition services programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of High School Diploma/ GED; Associate or Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Experience in food and nutrition or food systems management at least 2 to 3 years
- ServSafe certified
- Eligible for Mississippi Manager’s Certificate through MDE
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in Food Service Operations.
- High level of interpersonal skills.
- Complete fingerprinting process administered by the District.
- Must pass background check prior to employment.
- Accounting experience considered a plus.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist Child Nutrition Director with duties stated in Director’s job description.
- Assist office personnel with their duties when needed.
- Help to interview personnel for department.
- Teach personnel use of computer/software program and how to maintain reports.
- Assist with management duties in an absent of a café manager when needed.
- Responsible for training and supervision of café managers and or employees.
- Assist with the Responsibility for financial management of cafeteria sites.
- Assist with the evaluation of every aspect of the school system’s Child Nutrition programs.
- Supervise special contract activities and special functions.
- Assist in planning and developing the Child Nutrition budget and cost allocation in coordination with the Director.
- Assist School café managers with training and management problems.
- Plan, develop, and establish staff development programs.
- Recommend possible enrichment training programs.
- Check and test products to determine if food and supplies specified on bids are being received in the schools.
- Advise parents concerning the types of child nutrition programs available through the Child Nutrition Department.
- To assist parents in meeting the needs for additional programs for children with specific dietary requirements.
- Ensure each café site follows ALL Child Nutrition Department policies and procedures.
- Ensures and maintains equipment inventory and effective and efficient operation of all equipment at each café site.
- Will assist the Child Nutrition Director with other duties as assigned throughout the calendar year.
- Leads the catering team for assigned events
- Conduct site visits to analyze, monitor and recommend procedures, practice and methods of efficient food production and program requirements; i.e. storage, distribution methods, staff utilization, sanitation and safety practices, HACCP, sash controls, nutrition standards compliance, etc.
- Monitor staff to assure compliance with established District, Health Department, State Department, and Federal rules, regulations and requirements
- Assist in maintaining standards in food quality, customer service, sanitation, safety, and professional appearance
- Assist in determination of equipment standards and specifications
- Recommend improvement of cafeteria services, demonstrating correct methods of food preparation and services
- Assume responsibility for operation of the food service program in the absence of the Cafeteria Manager
- Work with Cafeteria Managers to ensure operational standards are met
- Conduct annual operational reviews and assist in state and federal reviews
- Assist in evaluating Cafeteria Managers and hourly staff
- Coordinate and conduct manager-in-training classes; assist in the development and implementation of leadership and training programs for all child nutrition personnel; complete on-the-job training with staff
- Attend meetings and training sessions (in and out of district) as required
- Interpret financial reports regarding profit and loss of individual cafeterias as well as overall department
- Assist in menu planning, costing, standardization of recipes, and site testing of products to monitor student acceptance
- Perform public relations activities, working closely with district personnel, students and parent groups to promote child nutrition programs
- Assist Cafeteria Managers, Principals, Central Office Staff, and Parents in the resolution of child nutrition related questions and concerns
- Organize catering requests and events; assist with production and costing of events
- Strive for good public relations with customers, co-workers, supervisors, and the community to increase student participation and improve the Child Nutrition program
- Able to demonstrate and operate kitchen equipment
- Perform related work as assigned by the Director
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
Work independently with little direction
Lift heavy items, such as food and supply containers, up to 50 pounds
Stand for long period of time and work in a warm environment
Work outside normal working hours if needed
Travel outside district to perform work functions if needed (Have dependable transportation)
Exhibit high standards for personal appearance
Ability to read and interpret documents, work orders, invoices and maintenance instructions.
Demonstrates effective communication skills by speaking clearly and expressing ideas logically
and giving clear, explicit explanations. Uses written communication appropriately and professionally.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach, bend and sometime lift up to 25-50 pounds. Mobility skills are necessary to access a variety of work locations.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Child Nutrition Staff and Managers. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and policies.
