Job Title: HVAC Technician
Reports to: Maintenance/Support Service Supervisor

Job Goal: Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all HVAC systems in district facilities.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license
- Air conditioning and refrigeration contractor license or technician certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of HVAC repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques
- Knowledge in the operation of electrical and direct – digital control systems
- Ability to operate a computer and assigned software (including email)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations
- Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
Experience:
- Minimum of three years of related experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Receive and complete work orders in a timely and efficient manner.
- Repair, replace or calibrate controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring
- Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
- Work with building principals and supervisors to complete work assignments.
- Detect needed repairs on equipment following established inspection procedures.
- Respond to emergency calls as needed.
- Perform general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in clean operable condition.
- Program and operate computer based energy management systems to control energy use in district facilities.
- Perform all duties and work assignments in accordance with district policies and procedures.Safety:
- Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including but not limited to lifting, climbing, etc.
- Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.
- Ability to use hand and power tools associated with the HVAC field
- Maintain preventative maintenance schedules and procedures for all HVAC equipment including filters, belts and coil cleaning.
- Assist Supervisor to complete energy conservation surveys to realize the most efficient cost effective use of HVAC energy.
- Perform any and all duties as assigned.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with parents/community or employees of the district.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climb. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as a tool box. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 90 pounds such as piping, valves, and equipment. The employee will sometimes push/pull items.
OTHER SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables. A good driving record is necessary. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with students, staff and community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies,
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, sprays and non-household dust. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud.
